About Hlutverkasetur

Hlutverkasetur (The Role Center)  provides an environment, inspiration, and support for those individuals who want to maintain their level of activity in a focused way and improve their quality of life.

Our aim is to improve our participants self-worth through various projects, education, and dialogue. Our guiding light is active community involvement, improved quality of life, and that they can perform roles that give life purpose and meaning.

One of the most important elements of life is having a place in it, i.e. a role to play. The Role Center ‘s work is an important community project that assists people, who, for whatever reason, short- or long-term, have lost their roles at work or school, as an example. Individuals with an impaired ability to work – and those that have been unemployed for a lengthy period – often lose hope, because they don’t believe they have anything to contribute to society. Because employment includes not only financial gain it also provides a social benefit it is important to offer a supportive environment for these people while they figure out their next steps.

The Role Center emphasizes that everyone has something to contribute and as a result our work has been positively affected by many volunteers who have donated their time and knowledge to help us in our work.

The Role Center is operated in cooperation with the Directorate of Labour, the City of Reykjavik, and various organizations and individuals.
